The end of May, look below for other May posts! But the end of May opens the POOL!
We have been waiting since our last swimming lesson in Feb for our community pool to open on Memorial Day weekend. Luckily we had the day together as a family and wandered down to to pool to escape the 90 degree weather. Keagan immediately remembered how much fun the pool is to play in and jumped right in.
He loved climbing out of the pool, only to do "jumpies" right back in.
He practiced floating with dad, but being on his back is his least favorite activity.
I think we may be living at the pool this summer!
Our trip to the top of Colorado!
For our 8th wedding anniversary on May 22nd, we decided to treat ourselves to a "cool' day - literally. It it getting into the 90's already and we wanted to get out of the heat, so up Pike's Peak we went on the cog railway where we needed jackets to keep warm at 14,000 feet! We actually had been planning this trip since Thanksgiving as I waited on Black Friday for some free tickets. We had driven to the top of Pike's Peak previously but had always wanted to take the cog railway, so we got in line and went up the mountain. The views from the train were breathtaking and Keagan was so well behaved. The seating was a little cramped, but between mom and dad's laps, he did just fine!
Once we got up to the summit, Keagan almost got blown away by the wind. We enjoyed the high altitude donuts but were ready to head back down. We had a great day as a family and couldn't be happier to share our wedding day with our wonderful son!

Crazy Coupe
The Crazy Coupe car that Keagan got for his birthday from Honorary Grandpa John - is the gift that just keeps giving. He just loves this little car. Everyday we go out to inspect the vehicle to make sure it is in top shape. And that Grandpa Roger came up with a way to pull the car around the yard with ease. So, just about every morning Keagan crawls into the car and off we go. Just the other morning, I took him around the yard twice and I was finished. Keagan got out of the car, and opened the gas cap and looked at me. I swear he wanted to put more gas in the car to make it go again. i just laughed and explained he needed to put more go in mommy if he wanted to go again!
How does your lawn look?
First Mower |
Keagan LOVES to mow. He first fell in love with the mower at Great-Grandma Charline's house in April when Grandma Diane found a little baby mower for Keagan. He just loved mowing the carpet and we almost could not stop him. So, when we got home we found a mower for Colorado. One for our house and one for John's house. The mower at our house is named "Mower Mike" and he has been trimming the carpet and the lawn since we got it.
The only thing that is better than "Mower Mike" is the little John Deere mower that we use to occasionally mow the yard. Pony Anne keeps the back yard trimmed and the severe drought with minimal rain in the last 2 months has pretty much kept the front yard under control. We do get it out every once and awhile to let Keagan play and take him for a little ride!
Keagan crawls up on the mower all by himself. He just loves it! |
Mom - we can't sit still for long, we need to MOW! |
Best Birthday Present EVER!
Keagan received his best birthday present a few days before his birthday and we didn't even know it was for him. What I am referring to is our pony Anne who has been in the family for 17 years. On our trip back to WI in April 2012 we noticed that she was VERY fat and was having a hard time getting around the pasture. After a discussion with Grandma and Grandpa we decided Anne needed to come to the weight loss farm in Colorado to see if we could make a difference in her life. We were afraid we would lose her to founder if she stayed in Wisconsin. So....after a long trailer ride out here, and reminding her daughter Daphne and friend Regen that she indeed was the boss mare, Anne settled in nicely to our farm. Little did we know that she and Keagan would become bonded so quickly.
The first fun activity she provided him was moving the water trough to the front pasture. He needed to check it out and make sure that water was ok for her to drink. By the time he was done, he was drenched but the water passed the test.
Now Keagan has always been around our other 2 but didn't seem to care much for the horses. But, it was completely different with Anne. She is such a calm spirit that he instantly connected with her. He would go out and pet her every day. His favorite thing to do was to stick his fingers up her nose. She seemed to know that he was her person and just sat there calmly. He was so excited to ride her for the first time and loves it when she walks around. He is becoming quite the rider at a young age and likes to pat her to make her go faster.
